After witnessing firsthand the challenges of food insecurity during humanitarian work, our founders became determined to create a solution that would address both nutritional needs and environmental sustainability.
The breakthrough came from studying one of nature's smallest yet most nutritionally dense plants: Wolffia globosa, commonly known as water lentils or duckweed. This tiny aquatic plant proved to be a powerhouse of protein, containing all essential amino acids while requiring minimal resources to grow.

From Concept to Reality
The first prototype of the Wolfu vertical farming system was developed in 2024, combining Arjaree's chemistry knowledge with Mathus's engineering expertise. They created an energy-efficient system using specialized LED lighting and a recirculating water system. Initial trials exceeded expectations, with the system producing three times more biomass than conventional methods while using 95% less water.
After perfecting the production system, the focus shifted to creating a delicious, nutrition-complete meal replacement that would be both affordable and appealing. Hundreds of formulations were tested before landing on the perfect balance of nutrients and flavor profiles.
Looking Forward
Today, Wolfu continues to innovate at the intersection of nutrition science and sustainable production. Our founders' vision extends beyond creating a single product—it's about revolutionizing how we think about food production and accessibility.
The ultimate goal is to establish Wolfu production systems globally, particularly in regions affected by food insecurity, allowing communities to produce nutrient-dense food locally with minimal resources.
